District Committee Member (D.C.M.)
Overview
The District Committee Member (D.C.M.) serves as the vital link between General Service Representatives (G.S.R.s) and the Area Committee. The D.C.M. represents the collective conscience of the district at the area level and ensures accurate, timely communication flows both ways. Strong leadership in this role helps create active, well-informed districts.
Key Responsibilities
Representation & Communication
Carry the voice of the district to the area committee.
Share information from the delegate, G.S.O., and area meetings with G.S.R.s.
Encourage group participation in district and area activities.
Leadership & Organization
Chair district committee meetings.
Coordinate workshops, service events, and activities.
Support district committees such as Public Information (P.I.), Treatment, Corrections, C.P.C., and Accessibility.
Conduct district inventories as needed to assess effectiveness and participation.
Support for G.S.R.s
Maintain regular contact with G.S.R.s, providing reminders about meetings and agenda items.
Visit groups to introduce yourself, encourage involvement, and foster unity.
Share service resources such as the A.A. Service Manual, Guidelines, and pamphlets.
Learning & Development
Study A.A. service literature (Service Manual, Concepts, Big Book, Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions).
Participate in area D.C.M. meetings and workshops to gain insight and share experiences.
Consider hosting a Concepts or Service study to build district knowledge.
- Consider attending monthly Area 02 Service Manual Study (Zoom).
Collaboration
Work with other D.C.M.s, area officers, and committee chairs to share ideas and strengthen events.
Invite area officers to district functions for added support and enthusiasm.
Coordinate with intergroup/central office when appropriate.
Helpful Practices
Workshops & Roundtables: Attend area-led D.C.M. workshops and share ideas with peers.
District Unity Events: Consider hosting service days or joint events with nearby districts.
Communication: Keep accurate contact information and promptly share updates with the area registrar.
Continuity: Prepare change forms and transition materials for the next D.C.M. at the end of your term.
Use Past Experience: Involve outgoing D.C.M.s as resources for district history and support.

Strengthen communication between groups and the area.
Encourage participation in service beyond the group level.
Build an informed, united, and active district.
Ensure smooth rotation of service by preparing for the next trusted servant.
